Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa By Maldives standards this is a big
resort, with 383 cottages, seven
restaurants, seven bars, a dive
centre, water sports centre, spa
and golf club. As general manager, you’d be the inspiration for 850 staff recruited from 15 countries and would be expected to maintain the already high standards of the resort. You’d also get the rather exotic title of “island chief”.

The key to this job is being able to stay commercially focused despite living and working on a dazzlingly beautiful island in the Indian Ocean. If you’re a city-slicker, for instance, you might not be able to handle the fact it’s so remote – even with the added bonus of being able to bask under a tropical sun on your days off.

Insiders confide that preference will be given to candidates who have experience of an Asian work culture. You might also have to get your head around the fact that the culture is “no shoes; no news”. But that probably doesn’t include you.

Starwood Hotels EuropeIf you’re trying to carve an international career, this Far Eastern posting offers a tad more adventure than the average expat location. Phnom Penh is a vibrant, exotic city that is still emerging in tourism terms. Add Raffles to the mix – one of the most iconic hotel companies in the world – and you have the perfect opportunity to sharpen up your CV.

The 170-room five-star hotel has six restaurants and bars and is consistently rated among the top hotels in the world. It’s not surprising, then, that they want an experienced restaurant manager who is adept at controlling costs and revenue, accurate in forecasting staff rosters and creative when it comes to inspiring your team.

What you mustn’t be is complacent. As far as Raffles is concerned, even the most talented restaurant manager can push their career on a notch: “We motivate and inspire, invest in our people, and provide an environment for continuous learning to achieve competitive edge,” says management. If you’re dynamic, motivated and proficient, this job has your name on it, apply now...
